Youth Mental Health

10:30am - 12:30pm

Manningham Function Centre

Youth Mental Health in Australia is an area of mental health that has been a primary focus of most federal, state and local governments as well as many health services, mental health organisations, educational bodies and community groups. According to the Youth Mental Health Report conducted by the Black Dog institute between 2012-2016, just under one in four Australians aged 15-19 years meet the criteria for having a probable mental illness. Alarmingly this number has grown over the period between 2012-2016 with about 22.8% of Australians aged 15-19 years meeting the criteria for having a probable mental illness compared to 18.7% in 2012.

Youth Mental Health is also an area of vital importance in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. It has been identified as one of leading areas of concern in the region. As part of our Eastern Metropolitan Mental Health Forum, mental health organisations, councils, local parliamentarians and local community members are invited to attend this event. The focus of this event will be on Youth Mental Health with a specific focus on mental health services in the Eastern Metropolitan Region of Melbourne. As part of the forum there will also be a Expo in which leading youth groups and mental health providers will be showcasing information about services they deliver in the area.
