Relationship Trauma Support Group

The relationship Trauma Support Group meets every 3rd Thursday of the month

2020 Dates: 21st May, 18th June, 16th July, 20th August, 17th September, 15th October, 19th Nov 2020

Time: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Venue: Online Until Further Notice

Facilitator: Eleanor is the facilitator for MHFA’s ‘Relationship Trauma’ support group. She has Fourth Year Psychology and draws from her lived experience as a carer and survivor. Eleanor also has over 15 years’ working in challenging environments including: corporate research/consulting; large retailers from Brighton to Abbotsford; fledgling small business; and not-for-profit organisations. She is known for her warmth, dry sense of humour, and practicality. She hopes that the group will support attendees in navigating some of life’s tricky situations/relationships and feeling good.

About :

Humans are social creatures that cannot survive without the pack. Throughout our lives we will find ourselves in relationship with family, friends, bosses, co-workers and intimate partners, to mention a few.

Some relationships may be nurturing and positive, while others feel negative and harmful.

Distressing interactions in our relationships can result in trauma and affect our sense of self. We can be left with upsetting memories, emotions and anxiety long after the event.

Attending a support group and creating positive connections can be a good step in the healing process.

In particular, this support group may appeal to:

- people who are experiencing current relationship difficulties 

- people who feel traumatized by past relationships

- people in caring roles who put the needs of others above their own

- people with specific conditions (e.g., BPD)

- people who have experienced psychological abuse

- people who are feel very affected by the wants/needs/moods of others on a daily basis

This support group aims to provide attendees with a safe space to share their stories, concerns and challenges. It will also allow for discussion about strategies for self-care and developing/maintaining healthy relationships.
